Use and maintenance of porcelain stoneware
Due to the low porosity of porcelain stoneware, there is practically no risk of staining.
However, some products that are energetic dyes can spill or come into contact with the surface of the product by chance; polished and semi-polished porcelain tiles, if this substance is left on the surface for some time it can stain, so we advise you to clean it as soon as possible.
Once the tile installation and grouting operations have been completed, the surface of the ceramic material usually shows traces of cement in the form of a film or small accumulations. In most cases, cleaning with a dilute acid solution is sufficient to remove these residues.
As a general rule, the following precautions should always be observed:
Acidic cleaning should never be carried out on the freshly laid ceramic product; the acid reacts with the uncured cement and may deteriorate the joints or deposit insoluble compounds on the surface.
It is advisable to impregnate the surface with clean water prior to any chemical treatment (tile-to-tile joints).
Regular maintenance consists of periodic cleaning by washing with water and a dilute solution of ammonia detergent.
With regard to the extraordinary cleaning of stains and encrustations that penetrate the surface and cannot be removed by usual cleaning operations, it is advisable before attempting to remove a stain with a vigorous procedure to test its effect on the surface of an unplaced part. This should prevent chemical degradation which could further deteriorate the condition of the product.
Metal spatulas and abrasive scouring pads must not be used.
After installation, it will be necessary to give adequate protection to the flooring by means of: cardboard, a layer of sawdust or another product to protect it from possible damage that may be caused by subsequent work.
To avoid breakages and any other unwanted cut finishes, it is advisable to use the appropriate tools for cutting and drilling porcelain stoneware.
For straight cuts, manual cutting machine with Widia Rodel, also water-cooled diamond disc machine and/or low-power radial machine equipped with a continuous diamond disc (not segmented).
To drill porcelain stoneware, a diamond drill bit should be used and the drilling area should be cooled periodically with water to avoid increasing the temperature and the melting of the drill bit.
